47 Students Disciplined For Indecent Dressing In Ekiti State University

Following the introduction of new dress codes in Ekiti State University, students who were caught exposing their body or dressing in a way that does not conform with the values of the university have been handed a note of warning while requesting for their names and matriculation number.

In a statement made on Thursday the 20th of January by the university Chief Security Officer, Squadron Leader Olu Adamolekun, “Since the new mode of dressing [took effect], we have been going to the examination hall to fish out students who [have] failed to comply with the new mode of dressing in campus.”

“The penalty decided to be given to any students caught in the examination hall with tattered jeans, wearing miniskirts, nose rings and exposing half of their breasts is to be sent out from the hall and be delayed for some minutes before asking such students to come inside.”

“We have remained strict to this measure and we believe, with time, all the students will adjust to the new mode of dressing,” he added.

According to statistics of students who have failed to comply with the new mode of dressing, about 47 students from different faculties have been disciplined and have had their student information shared with the Dean of Students Affairs.

Meanwhile, the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Ademilua, while reiterating the management’s stance to effectively checkmate the mode of dressing, said it is now obvious that some students have realised the university’s seriousness in reducing indecent dressing within the school.

“About 47 students have been caught in indecent dressing and what we did is that we collected their names, matriculation number and handed them a note of warning.”

“I believe in all the measures put in place we won’t have to check and correct the dressing pattern of our students as time goes on,” he said.
