Governor says two died, 77 injured in Tuesday blast

 The explosion that shook the Bodija Area of Ibadan has left the people of Oyo State in shock. Governor Seyi Makinde, after visiting the scene, confirmed that the explosion was caused by explosive devices stored by illegal miners. This tragic incident has resulted in the loss of lives and injuries to many individuals.

Preliminary investigations conducted by security agencies have revealed that the illegal miners had stored these explosive devices in one of the houses in Bodija. The investigations are still ongoing, and anyone found responsible for this devastating incident will face the consequences.

The impact of the explosion was not limited to Bodija alone. It also affected important government buildings, including the Governor's Office, Secretariat, Oyo State House of Assembly, and the residence of the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige. Additionally, several buildings in other areas such as Ologuneru, Apete, New Garage, Bashorun, Akobo, Sango, and Eleyele were also affected.

The governor expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and assured them that the government would take care of the medical bills of the injured. He also promised support to those whose houses were affected, ensuring that they would be assisted in rebuilding their lives.

Rescue operations are already underway at the scene of the incident, with the deployment of necessary equipment, ambulances, emergency lights, and security personnel. Governor Makinde urged residents to remain calm during this difficult time.
