Two members of the Alumni Association of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU), Sanni Abdulateef and Ajoke Mohammed are demanding N155.5 million as damages from the Vice Chancellor, Prof Edward Olanipekun over an accident involving one of the cars in his convoy in May, 2020.
Documents of a pre action notice indicates that on May 18, 2020, the two alumni members while driving on Iworoko-Ekiti were rammed into by one of the cars in Prof Olanipekun’s convoy, causing major injuries to them.
It was alleged in the notice that the University wanted to use the Police to frame the two alumni members to avoid responsibility for the accident after allegedly engaging the services of the Iworoko Divisional Police to facilitate a settlement between the University and the alumni members, which broke down.
The police were said to have requested a letter from Abdulateef and Mohammed, admitting fault in the accident, which the duo declined to, prompting the Police to file criminal charges against them.
The notice signed by Mr Morakinyo Ogele indicated that the request for damages followed the acquittal of Abdulateef on two counts of reckless driving and driving without license.
According Ogele, the Vice Chancellor and the University have 30 days to pay the damages or face legal action.
