1. Senators, yesterday, raised the alarm that Nigeria is under siege from murderous non-state actors whose activities are threatening the continued existence of the country. The Senate stated this during a public hearing, organised by the Joint Committee on Judiciary and Human Rights and Legal Matters.
2. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has threatened to blacklist any political party that conducts acrimonious congress. National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, stated this in a statement, yesterday.
3. The Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu yesterday said operatives of the Neighbourhood Safety Corps, are doing Amotekun’s work in the state. Sanwo-Olu who stated this while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, said the state does not need Amotekun.
4. President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, expressed worries over frequent explosion of fuel tankers on public roads in the country. Buhari made the expression yesterday while reacting to the explosion that claimed the lives of residents of Oshigbudu community in Agatu Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State on Sunday.
5. The Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) yesterday, assured that the implementation of financial autonomy for states’ judiciary and legislature will commence before the end of May 2021. NGF Chairman Dr Kayode Fayemi made this known on Monday in Abuja.
6. The chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, on Monday, said the EFCC alone cannot fight corruption. Bawa said this in Abuja at the commission’s headquarters while receiving members of a civil society organization, Civil Society Coalition for Transparency and Good Governance.
7. The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday signed a bill to establish the Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission. The governor also assented to the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority Bill.
8. The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU, has drawn the attention of Nigerians and the international community to another round of mass sack of workers in the state and local government civil service. This was contained in a statement by the group’s President, Comrade Jonathan Asake.
9. Ebonyi State Government, yesterday, frowned at what it described as worrisome reports of unauthorised release of 55 suspected warlords arrested in connection with the intra-communal war in Effium community in Ohaukwu local government area of the state by security agents.
