A survivor of the devastating explosion that shook Dejo Oyelese Street in Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State, has shared a harrowing account of how he tragically lost his elder brother. Adeleke, the survivor, recounted the heart-wrenching incident during an interview with Lagelu FM, a local broadcasting station. According to Adeleke, he and his brother were enjoying a game of tennis at a nearby hotel when his brother suddenly left to attend to something. Little did they know that this decision would lead to a life-altering tragedy. The explosion occurred, causing chaos and sending a sharp object hurtling towards Adeleke, leaving him with a deep cut in his stomach. Adeleke tearfully identified his late brother as Oladipupo, revealing that he was immediately rushed to Adeoyo General Hospital for urgent medical attention. "He was standing near the transformer where the incident took place. His intestines were exposed after the cut," Adeleke painfully recalled. Another survivor, Olaitan Okanlawon, also shared her terrifying experience. She explained that the incident happened around 7 pm, with a strange sound and vibrations filling the air. As the confusion grew, they realized that the building was being bombarded with debris. "My husband, kids, and I were inside when we started hearing these strange sounds and feeling the vibrations. It wasn't until we saw rubble outside the window that we understood the severity of the situation," Olaitan recounted. Sadly, one of her children sustained a head injury and is currently receiving medical attention. They have relocated their belongings to a nearby hotel for safety. In response to the tragic incident, the state governor, Seyi Makinde, expressed his condolences and assured the public that a thorough investigation was underway. Preliminary findings suggest that the explosion was caused by explosive devices stored by illegal miners in the area. Governor Makinde emphasized that anyone found responsible for this devastating incident would face the full force of the law.
