Ekiti State University Qualifies In Eight Sporting Events
The Zone D preliminary stage of the Nigerian Universities Games ended on Saturday, 22nd of January in Ilorin, with Ekiti State University qualifying in eight competitions including Badminton, Table Tennis, Tennis, Scrabble, Athletics, Judo, Karate and Taekwondo.

Team EKSU gave impressive performances in both male and female categories, booking multiple spots for the University. The team also qualified in the mixed doubles, male and female doubles and singles at the table tennis event. Meanwhile, in Tennis, EKSU won in the male category and also in the mixed doubles event.

The male team qualified in badminton, coming behind the University of Ilorin in the second position.

It was an easy ride for EKSU in sports like karate, judo and taekwondo as they won both the male and female categories. Two players each (males and females) qualified in the 50kg, 60kg, 75kg and 83kg categories of karate.

In judo, three men qualified in the 73kg, 100kg and open fight categories, while the women bagged nine qualifications in the 48kg, 52kg, 57kg, 63kg, 70kg, 78kg and open fight categories. Taekwondo went unopposed in the preliminary stage.

Team EKSU also qualified in different categories for athletics. The women booked a spot in the 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500M and 5000m categories, while the men scaled through the 400m, 1,500m, 5,000m and 10,000m categories.

In relay, EKSU won both male and female categories as they qualified in the 4X100m and 4X400m relay race. The women also won in javelin and long jump, while the men won in the 400m hurdle race.

Additionally, scrabble went unopposed during the preliminary stage.
